The Bais HaMedrash and Mesivta of Baltimore was founded in 1997 by Rabbi Zvi Dov Slanger. Built upon the backdrop of Rav Slanger’s childhood in pre-war Europe and his formative years spent studying with the greatest leaders of the past generation, the Yeshiva is a link to the past and a bridge to the future. Together with the outstanding American-bred faculty members, each student is a benificiary of this unique blend of tradition and education.
The Yeshiva began with sixteen ninth grade students in rented space from a local Synagogue. Today, in our eighteenth year, we have our own beautiful campus which houses more than one hundred and thirty five students. For the 2014-2015 school year we received close to one hundred applications for the twenty-six spaces available in our incoming ninth grade class. Our undergraduate division currently has thirty six students enrolled.
Our diverse student body originate from cities across the United States and around the globe. The Bais HaMedrash and Mesivta of Baltimore is recognized in the community for its very rigorous limudei kodesh (Judaic studies) program anchored in the intensive study of Judaism’s vast corpus of sacred and classical literature, beginning with Torah and the Talmud. It offers its students a full complement of Jewish and general studies that meet and exceed Maryland’s guidelines for secondary education and curriculum.
Our devoted faculty, both in Jewish and general studies, bring to the classroom advanced academic credentials; years of practical classroom experience, and dedication to close teacher-student working relationships. On the post-secondary (Bais Medrash) level, students pursue advanced study and independent research into classic Jewish texts. Our graduates will be inspired and qualified to take leadership roles in the Jewish community whether as Rabbis, educators or lay professionals also committed to communal service.
